I don't know much about Gnosticism, either it's ancient or modern incarnation, but I keep coming across it in multiple sources. So in an effort to start doing some more reading of academic articles, I came across the following article last night by Prof. Joseph Dan:

Having read a book on Jewish Gnosticism by the late Prof. Gershom Scholem in the past I thought that there were a number of links, exchange of ideas and influences from one set of texts to another between Jewish Kabbalists and Gnostics... but turns out that more recent research has proven that not to be the case.
